Welcome to the 2026-2027 school year! This is my 5th year as Principal of Bur Oak Secondary School, and I look forward to another amazing year of working, learning together, supporting, and serving our students, staff, and parents/guardians. A particularly warm welcome to parents/guardians with children entering Grade 9.
Parents/guardians: You are your child’s first teacher and know them best. The key to our partnership is establishing and maintaining positive and trusting relationships through ongoing communication. Please reach out to the school if you have any questions or concerns:
- Most questions and concerns can be addressed by reaching out to the classroom teacher as a first contact.
- Additional support can be provided by your child's assigned Guidance Counsellor, Special Education resource teacher (if student is identified), or our Student Success teacher (and YRDSB Teacher of the Year, Mr. Brar).
- Further support is available from our Vice-Principals (assigned by student last name): Ms. Laura Hogan (A–J), Ms. Diana Taylor (K–R), and Ms. Erika Pridie (S–Z).
As Principal, I believe in a team approach that puts student needs at the forefront. Our priorities are student learning and achievement, as well as student and staff well-being within a safe and welcoming environment. Each member of our school community plays a vital role in supporting students’ social, emotional, and academic needs. We want every individual to feel valued, respected, and heard.
Be sure to read our weekly parent/guardian bulletin and end-of-semester newsletter. We encourage students to get involved in school clubs and athletics to complement their academics. My staff and I look forward to serving the school community so that each student reaches their full potential through high expectations, strong professional relationships, and personalized support.
