The Goals of the ESL Department

It is important for our English Language Learners to feel comfortable in their classes, so we plan to spend some time at the beginning of each semester for our students to learn about and create bonds with their classmates. To develop these relationships, we plan some fun activities.

We encourage our students to be involved in leadership activities in the school and to participate in school life through extra-curricular activities such as sports and clubs.

The ESL department has also been focusing on empowering our students by teaching them leadership skills and teaching them how to advocate for themselves.  One of the ways we are promoting leadership is by developing relationships with other departments in the school.  We have been working with the Alternative Education and Co-operative Education departments to create leadership roles in the ESL classroom.  

The use of technology in the department helps students develop their literacy skills.  They can also use it to conference and edit their work online.
